![]() A remodel was done to the exterior of the casino to fit with it's new theme, and Hawaiian food begun being served to customers. It seems that catering to people from Southern California didn't work out too well, as later it was decided that the hotel would start catering more to Hawaiian tourists. The main tower, which only had 325 rooms, was made to look like the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. When it opened, it had a more "gold rush" theme to it, as it had murals that represented the 1849 gold rush. The original intent of the hotel and casino was to attract people from Southern California to their place (Hence the name). California, costing about $10 million to build, officially opened for business back on New Years Eve (December 31), 1975 by Sam Boyd.
